Description

A number of post medieval gravel extraction pits close to the village of Stoke Hammond centred at SP 8877 2966, visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. While most are sub-circular and c.2-4m in diameter, some are further from the cluster and are more sub-angular in form, and cover more area. These pits are situated close to two areas of post medieval gravel extraction on a larger scale, one of which appears on the 1881 OS Map of Buckinghamshire (1).
