Description

Cropmarks of the outlines of a number of dispersed buildings and a circular feature visible on aerial photographs. Two clusters can be seen within a large field to the west of Marsworth centred at SP 9159 1457 and SP 9143 1478, these are the traces of a satellite installation of RAF Cheddington a WW2 airfield located to the north which are marked on the contemporary OS map of the area. In the south-western corner of the field, at SP 9160 1454 there is a cropmark of a possible ring ditch. It is not clear if this is part of the military site or the remains of a possible Bronze Age round barrow. The field appears to have been subjected to test trenching - the outlines of the trenches are also visible as cropmarks focused on the two dispersed parts of the WW2 camp - but no record of the excavations have been found (10).
