Summary

A Neolithic polished flint axe was found in the Thames at Maidenhead, 400 yards downstream of Maidenhead railway bridge. It is now in Reading Museum (accession number 69.52). A Mesolithic tranchet axe was found downstream at the railway bridge and is also in Reading Museum.

Description

Maidenhead (400 yards downstream of Maidenhead railway bridge). Polished flint. Upper face slightly flattened. Ochreous-grey.Slight signs of wear.
L 152 mm. W 59 mm. T 36 mm. Wt 350 gm. Reading Museum (69.52) (B1).

SU 901800. A Mesolithic tranchet axe was found downstream at the railway bridge. The find is now in Reading Museum (B2).
