Summary

Twenty-three Palaeolithic handaxes were found at Station Pit, Taplow, otherwise known as G W R Pit. The pit was originally occupied by a temporary terminus of the Great Western mainline to Bristol in the 1850's. The objects were found in an area of Taplow Gravel geology.

Description

Twenty-two Palaeolithic hand-axes have been found at Station Pit, Taplow, at SU 919816, according to Wymer. Roe sites Station Pit at SU 913814 and gives the number of axes found as 23.
All in Oxford University Museum. (Treacher Colln). (B1-B2)
Station Pit, now a recreation ground,was centred at SU 918 815. No further information (B3).
