- AIR RAID SHELTER (Modern - 1939 AD to 1945 AD)
Description
Three civilian air raid shelters of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located at the site of the International Alloys factory, Bicester Road, Aylesbury (see MBC24815), and centred at SP 80323 14497. Three single storey, flat roofed air raid shelters can be seen among the factory buildings and chimneys in 1946. The buildings are approximately 9-13m in length and approximately 4m wide and appear as pale buildings, suggesting they are new concrete constructions. They are not present on 1943 aerial photographs and do not appear to be present by 1961.
