Description
A medieval and/or post medieval ditched enclosure and platform is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthwork and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located adjacent Wescott farm on the boundary of Ashendon Road and centred at SP 72010 16732, a rectangular earthwork platform is about 37 x 31 metres and is bounded on the SW and SE facing sides by an L shaped ditch up to 10 metres wide. It seems likely that it forms part of the much more extensive medieval village shrinkage earthworks that are visible in fields W and E of Westcott village High Street. Although only just visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947, the earthworks are clearly visible on recent remote sensing data (1-2).
