Monument record MBC48684 - Ridge and furrow field systems in the parish of Chearsley

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and levelled earthworks and was/were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within the parish of Chearsley and centred at SP 71554 10885. Only the eastern two thirds of the parish of Chearsley lies inside the project area and earthworks were recorded across all of this area but not contiguously and only on the areas of heavier soils which overlie Kimmeridge Clay Formation Mudstones. Plough headlands and furlong boundaries were also recorded, as well as drainage ditches which may be later in date than the field systems. (1-9)
