Monument record MBC48634 - Ridge and furrow field systems in the parish of Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks, and cropmarks and was/were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within the parish of Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh and centred at SP 81154 08647. This mapping project covers only the northern third of the parish of Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh which lies on the lower land at the foot of the Chilterns, mainly on the Gault Formation Mudstones where soils are likely to be heavier. Ridge and furrow field systems, with associated plough headlands and drainage ditches, were recorded as almost contiguous earthworks, with only four parcels visible as cropmarks in the 1940s. About two thirds of what was mapped can still be seen as earthworks on lidar visualisations. This parish is unaffected by the routs of the High Speed 2 (HS2) railway line. (1-26)
