Description

Four medieval and/or post medieval irregularly shaped platforms and boundary ditch is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field immediately S of Sheepcote Hill Farm and centred at SP 77033 14496, a linear ditch or hollow way up 6 metres wide extends from the farm S for 75 metres between two blocks of ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, whereupon it bends SSE for a further 50 metres. Extending W from this lower end is an interconnected ditch that encloses four platforms, 2 irregularly shaped and 2 subrectangular, ranging in size from 13 x 7 metres and 47 x 17 metres at the widest points. The function of these earthworks is unclear. (1-2).
