Description

A medieval and/or post medieval platform and boundary ditches is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). It is located in a field some 200 metres from the River Thame and about 660 metres SSW from Beachendon Farm, centred at SP 75808 12930. Located against the field boundary is a subrectangular platform about 23.5 metres SSW-NNE and 27.5 metres WNW-ESE at its widest points. A ditch about 6-9 metres wide bounds the platform on three sides, with the WNW facing side being the field boundary line. From this boundary ditch, a linear ditch extends E for 93 metres to link with the nearby moated side (Bucks HER 0017800000 / MBC601). On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the earthworks remain extant (1-7).
