Description

An Iron Age and/or Roman subrectangular ditched enclosure is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in fields just to the SE of Westlington and centred at SP 76448 10250, a subrectangular ditched enclosure straddles a parliamentary field boundary. A subrectangular ditch up to 2.5 metres wide forms an enclosure about 29.5 x 25 metres at its widest point. From the SE corner a linear ditch extends SE for a further 15 metres (1).

Cropmark of a rectilinear enclosure, possibly later prehistoric or Roman in date visible on aerial photographs at SP 7645 1026. The enclosure is trapezoidal and defined by a single ditch, measuring approximately 40m in length. A short length of ditch can be seen extending SE from the south-eastern corner of the enclosure. The current hedge-line cuts through the eastern half of the enclosure. The cropmark remains of levelled medieval ridge and furrow and sinuous bands of cropmark from the underlying geology can be seen throughout the field (2).
