Description

Probable Iron Age and/or Roman conjoined ditched enclosures are visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 790 metres NE of Eythrope and centred at SP 77863 14415, a rectilinear ditch up to 1.5 metres wide forms an enclosure about 14.5 metres N-S and 16 metres W-E. Conjoined to its southern boundary is a second rectilinear ditch about 16 metres N-S and 15 metres W-E. Centred some 23 metres S of this is a subcircular enclosure ditch up to 2 metres wide that encloses an internal area about 17 metres at its widest point. A curving ditch extends S for 30 metres and terminates in a large irregularly shaped macula cropmark. Three scattered pits around the enclosures may be associated (1).
