Description

A post medieval drainage ditch system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on a meadow on the north facing bank of Bear Brook about 740 metres WNW of Haydon Mill Farm and centred at SP 78404 15031, a system of parallel and perpendicular, sinuous and linear interconnecting ditches between 1 and 3 metres wide extends across the flood meadows for about 400 metres NW-SE. On aerial photographs taken in 1971 half of the features have been levelled by the construction of a large sewage works. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the remaining ditches remain extant (1-4).
