Description

A post medieval drainage ditch system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on a meadow on the west facing bank of the River Thame about 690 metres S of Putlowes and centred at SP 78339 14454, a system of parallel and perpendicular, sinuous and linear interconnecting ditches between 2 and 3 metres wide extends across the flood meadows for about 720 metres SSW-NNE, where it then splits N for a further 472 metres and NE for a further 478 metres. On aerial photographs taken in 2020 and recent remote sensing data, most of the ditches remain extant (1-4).
