Description
A post medieval drainage ditch system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the meadow between the two arms of the River Thame about 550 metres ESE of Bridge Lodge and centred at SP 77258 13452, a system of sinuous and linear interconnecting parallel and perpendicular ditches between 1.5 and 5.5 metres wide extends across the flood meadows for about 390 metres W-E and 217 metres N-S. At three points the ditches connect with the river as tail drains. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, the ditches remain extant (1-3).
