Description

A post medieval drainage ditch system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the south bank of the River Thame about 550 metres NNW of Starveall Farm and centred at SP 76488 13039, a system of interconnected linear ditches between 1.5 and 7 metres wide extend across the meadows adjacent the river about 480 metres SW-NE and 150 metres NW-SE. At three points the ditches connect with the river as tail drains. Some of the linear drainage ditches run parallel to each and connect perpendicular with the main drainage ditch that runs parallel to the river. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, some of the larger ditches remain extant (1-3).
