Monument record MBC48593 - Medieval and/or post medieval field systems, Cuddington parish.

Medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow, remnants of the former common open-field system, is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the very eastern edge of Cuddington parish, blocks of ridge and furrow are concentrated around two foci: Low Farm and Cowley Farm. Contained within this system are linear and sinuous sections of earthwork bank, likely being furlong boundaries. These bank features form part of a much larger system of boundaries that extend across the project area and have been recorded in both Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, almost every block of the ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s remain extant (1-3)

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and levelled earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located within the parish of Cuddington and centred at SP 73667 11029. Ridge and furrow earthworks were mapped across the area, almost contiguously where the soils overlie solid geology of Kimmeridge Clay Formation Mudstones and not where the soils are lighter over Purbeck Group Limestone Formation and Portland Stone Formation Limestone. These field systems were crossed by plough headlands and furlong boundaries which are visible as low earthworks on lidar visualisations, and later drainage ditches in places. (4-16)
