Description

A possible post medieval windmill mound is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field corner about 270 metres E of Lower Denham Farm and centred at SP 76201 18972 is a circular earthwork mound about 10 metres in diameter. It appears to be sited at the top of ridge slope and atop a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so post-dating it. It may therefore be a windmill mound. A windmill is depicted on the 1813 Ordnance Surveyors Drawing some 500 metres WNW which was not visible on the aerial photographs or remote sensing data available to the project. On aerial photographs taken in 2015 and recent remote sensing data, the earthwork mound remains extant (1-3).
