Description
A slightly oval mound of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in the middle of a field about 585 metres SE of Middle Farm and centred at SP 75401 23025, the ovoid mound is about 17 metres in diameter at its widest point. On aerial photographs taken in 1947, the mound is sited within an extant block of medieval/post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, which it appears to underlie. The cultivation earthworks have since been entirely plough levelled, but on recent remote sensing data the mound remains visible. It is therefore possible that this is a prehistoric funerary mound (1-2).
