Description

A road probable medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located between Haddenham and Westlington and centred at SP 75495 09067. The course of a sinuous road can be traced as a low earthwork across and possibly underlying areas of ridge and furrow field systems between Haddenham and Westlington (West Dinton on historic mapping). It is visible on the Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing for Aylesbury dating from 1813-4 but it is not on the Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 map; the parish was inclosed in 1834 and a reorganisation of the roads would likely have been undertaken as part of the reorganisation of the field systems and boundaries. Field boundaries can be seen joining or crossing the road along its length. (1-4)
