Monument record MBC48558 - Road from Haddenham towards the River Thame, Haddenham

A road of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the west side of Haddenham and centred at SP 72802 09023. The road runs roughly east to west and is crossed by the turnpike road which became the A418 (Aylesbury Road) and the line of the railway from 1906. The eastern end of the road is visible as a cropmark where it crosses the area that became the airfield for RAF Thame and joins with Windmill Road at the eastern end. The parish was inclosed in 1834 and the roads were likely reorganised at that time. The road can be seen on the Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing for Aylesbury from 1813-14 and is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs and as low earthworks on lidar visualisations. (1-9)
