Description

A ring ditch and a subrectangular enclosure uncertain date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant cropmarks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 700m north west of the site of Notley Abbey, Long Crendon, and centred at SP 71082 09651. The ring ditch can be seen as a cropmark in an arable field in 1946 and is still visible in 2010. It measures approximately 50m in diameter and is situated at the top of a rise, above the site of Notley Abbey. The subrectangular enclosure measures approximately 26x18m and this is visible only on photographs from 2010 available to the project. Underlying solid geology is Portland Stone overlain with Superficial Deposits of Head. (1-2)
