Monument record MBC48550 - Communal feeding and Social Centre for RAF Thame, Haddenham

A Communal Feeding and Social Centre of World War II date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the south side of Banks Road, now occupied by the Community Library, Haddenham, and centred at SP 74182 08781. A military site consisting of approximately eight Nissen Huts, eight other buildings, three blast shelters and a probable Stanton Air Raid Shelter can be seen on aerial photographs from 1946 through to 1961 when the site starts to be redeveloped. By 1973 most of the war time buildings are gone and it is the site of the Community Library by 2025. No plan of RAF Thame was available to confirm the identity of buildings on and around the airfield but a Communal Feeding and Social Centre, later the site of the library, is mentioned in online histories of the airfield.
