Monument record MBC48547 - Drainage ditches along a water course between areas of ridge and furrow field systems, Dinton-with-Ford and Upton

Drainage ditches of probable post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on both sides of a watercourse, Dinton-with-Ford and Upton, and centred at SP 76624 08912. Networks of drainage ditches cut in to alluvium of the flood plain of a watercourse, part of which forms the parish boundary between Dinton-with-Ford and Upton and Haddenham. The underlying solid geology is Portland Stone and Gault Formation Mudstone giving rise to soils of Riverine Clay and Riverine Floodplain Sands and Gravels with a high water table. Further nearby drainage ditches appear more natural in character and so were not mapped as part of this project. The course of the river has moved over time and palaeochannels are clearly visible on lidar visualisations. (1-5)
