Monument record MBC48546 - Extractive pit approximately 280m north east of Hewdon Farm, Dinton with Ford and Upton

A probable extractive pit post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and soilmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 280m north east of Hewdon Farm, Dinton with Ford and Upton, and centred at SP 76274 09644. A large irregular shaped extractive pit, measuring approximately 150x84m at its largest, visible as a cut/pit at the southern end, and a mound at the northern end with uneven ground in between, on 1940s and 1950 and later aerial photographs and as uneven ground on lidar visualisations. The underlying solid geology is Purbeck Group Limestone Argillaceous Rocks Interbedded; no superficial deposits are recorded. (1-7)
