Description

Possible boundary ditches of medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located to the north of Villa Farm, Bishopstone, Stone with Bishopstone and Hartwell, and centred at SP 80613 10267. Linear ditches forming small parcels of land are visible as clear earthworks; no features are visible inside the parcels. Modern land use is grass and the ditches remain visible on lidar visualisations. These boundaries are not shown on Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 mapping; the parish was inclosed in 1877 and these boundaries are crossed by field boundaries shown on the Epoch 1 mapping so they likely pre-date inclosure. Some of the ditches have been removed by construction of barns/outbuildings on the site. (1-2)
