Monument record MBC48525 - Post medieval drainage system, Watbridge Farm

A post medieval drainage system or water meadow is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located across fields on the NW facing bank of a meandering watercourse about 770 metres SW of Watbridge Farm and centred at SP 71737 13677, a system of parallel linear ditches up to 3.5 metres wide extends across an area about 350 metres SW-NE and 65 metres NW-SE. The drain system connects with the watercourse at two points, one as a head and the other a tail drain, suggesting that this may have been part of a water meadow. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, almost all the ditches have been infilled and levelled (1-5).
