Description

A post medieval drainage system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located across fields on the SE facing bank of a meandering watercourse about 630 metres S of Watbridge Farm and centred at SP 72108 13742, a system of interconnected linear and sinuous ditches up to 3.5 metres wide extends across an area about 760 metres N-S and 575 metres W-E. The drain system connects with the watercourse at four points. Part of the system overlie blocks of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so post-dating them. On aerial photographs taken in 2023 and recent remote sensing data, almost all the ditches have been infilled and levelled (1-3).
