(SU 9660 8332) Mound shown but not described (B4).

A doubtful barrow. Situated on a gentle S-facing slope in a field under cultivation, the scrub covered mound measures c18.0m E-W by 16.0m transversely and is 2.8m high. It has a flat top, and appears undisturbed.
There is a strong local tradition that the mound was built in the mid 19th c by the local rector for a gazebo, for the view it afforded down to the Thames and Windsor Castle. The appearance and dimensions concur with this theory.
Resurveyed at 1:2500 (B6).

NRHE records a mound - period not proven - at Stoke Poges SU 966835.
Nothing visible on available Aps (RAF 1954). (1)
No trace or local information. The above almost certainly refers to the mound at SU 96608332 [01631](See SU 98 SE 4). Mr R Dennington (B1) (Auth 1) concurs that the above NGR is probably a mistake, and has no knowledge of a former mound in area SU 966835. (B6).
