HOLLINGDON ENCLOSED EARLY C16? (B4).
A HAMLET ON N SIDE OF PARISH, SURVEYED SEPARATELY AT DOMESDAY, WHEN WAS HELD BY 3 TENANTS. GREATER PART OF HOLLENDEN INCLUDED IN LISCOMBE PARK (B1 (1847)).
HOLLINGDON HAMLET; 6 FARMS & 18 COTTAGES. DIVIDED INTO UPPER & LOWER HOLLINGDON (B2 (1862)).
Domesday entries:
In Hollingdon Payne holds 3 1/2 hides from William [son of Ansculf]. Land for 1 plough; it is there, with 3 villagers. The value is and always was 10s. Four Freemen held this land; three of these, men of Brictric's, had 2 1/2 virgates; the fourth, a man of Wicga's, had 1 virgate; all of them could sell their land.
In Hollingdon Nigel holds 1 virgate from Miles [Crispin]. Land for 1/2 plough. It is there, with 1 villager. The value is and was 3s; before 1066, 4s. The holder of this land could not grant or sell before 1066.
Countess Judith holds 1 hide and 3 1/2 virgates in Hollingdon; Thorkell holds from her. Land for 2 ploughs; in lordship 1. 1 villager with 3 smallholders has 1 plough. The value is and was 20s; before 1066, 30s. He also held before 1066; he could sell. (B7).
