Description
A mound of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field about 385 metres SW of Grange Farm and centred at SP 73165 20678, a circular mound is about 28 metres in diameter. The mound is set on the top of a low ridge within a block of mostly plough levelled medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. The mound is clearly visible on recent remote sensing data, but from the available historic aerial photographs, it remains mostly invisible and it is not possible to firmly determine whether it lies beneath the ridge and furrow or on top of it. It may therefore represent the earthworks of a prehistoric or Roman funerary monument, or a medieval and/or post medieval windmill mound (1-5).
