Description

A medieval and/or post medieval platform and boundary ditch are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the south edge of Finemere Wood overlooking the River Ray and centred at SP 72227 21596, a subrectangular shaped platform about 23 x 17 metres at its widest points is bordered along its SW and SE facing sides by a ditch up to 2.5 metres wide. The 1813 ordnance Surveyors Drawing shows a building to be located at this site at that time, though this is no longer present on the 1st Edition OS map dated 1880, where there is only a small fenced enclosure (1-4).
