Description
An elongated earthwork bank or mound of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located about 478 metres WNW of Quainton Hill covered reservoir and centred at SP 74658 21527, an earthwork mound with parallel sides and rounded ends is about 55 metres WNW-ESE and 21 metres SSW-NNE. It is located at the base of the south facing hillslope and appears to underlie a large block of ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, so pre-dating it. It does not appear to be part of the medieval field system, so it is possible that this is much earlier in date, possibly funerary.(1-2).
