- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
Two post medieval extractive pits are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located about 265 metres E of Hogshaw Hill Farm on Conduit Hill and centred at SP 74797 22093, the two irregularly shaped pits are almost contiguous and cover an area of about 502 and 448 square metres. The extraction sites appear to cut into a block of medieval and/or post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, so post-dating it (1-2).
