Monument record MBC47959 - Post Second World War century prefabricated housing estate, Westcott.

A post Second World War prefabricated housing estate is visible on historic aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in a field that had formed part of the Second World War airfield RAF Westcott and centred at SP 71563 17324, the housing estate and new road system had been constructed between April 1947 and June 1949 and comprised 43 rectangular prefabricated houses of 9 x 7 metres, each of which is accompanied by an outbuilding about 3.5 x 2 metres immediately adjacent to the corner rear and accessed by 3 roads which are linked by a new road (now Burnham Road) from the High Street built for new permanent residences. The prefabricated houses remain extant in 1961, but all have been demolished by 2003 and the area returned to grass. The OS map edition dated 1981 shows no buildings at that time, only the roads, so the estate must have been demolished in the 1960s or 1970s. On aerial photographs taken in 2023, the overgrown roadways remain in the grass field, one of which has been turned into a pedestrian path (1-6).
