Description

A Second World War Royal Air Force accommodation camp Site No 6 (RAF Wescott) is visible on historic aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located in fields S of the former military airfield and centred at SP 71324 15790, the site comprises a cluster of rectangular military temporary brick-built buildings: a sentry box (RAF picket post) leads to officers quarters and latrine, sergeants quarters and latrine, airmens barracks and latrines, an M&E plinth, three earth covered air raid shelters (Stanton), all linked by a road and pathway network. Between 1949 and 1961, the camp’s buildings are progressively demolished. Between 1961 and 1999 the air raid shelters are demolished and levelled. On aerial photographs taken in 2023, all that remains of the camp are the central roadway and the M&E plinth (1-8).
