- BURIED SOIL HORIZON? (1st Century Roman to Medieval - 43 AD? to 1539 AD?)
- PIT? (Late Mesolithic to Medieval - 7000 BC? to 1539 AD?)
Description
A buried soil layer was identified during a watching brief, from which a sherd of Roman greyware pottery was recovered. It is uncertain whether this sherd is contemporary with the deposit or residual. However, the soil is considered to be 'of some antiquity'. Two additional pit-like features were also identified. One of these, located in the area of the soakaway, contained a worked prehistoric flint. Other finds from the site included medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds, a fragment of an iron knife, and a piece of ceramic building material (B1).
