Description

A road of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and cropmarks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located south of the village of Buckland, between Aston Wharf, on the Grand Union Canal, and the village of Buckland and centred at SP 89402 11992. The line of a former road can be seen as a low earthwork and as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The parish of Buckland was inclosed in 1844, and it is likely that the road was realigned at that time. The line of the road can be seen on the Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing for Aylesbury, drawn in 1813-14, but the current line of Buckland Road is what is shown on Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 mapping from the late 19th century.
