  • BOUNDARY DITCH (Medieval - 1066 AD to 1539 AD)

Description

Possible boundary ditches of probable medieval or earlier date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as low earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located east of the hamlet of Sedrup, Stone with Bishopstone and Hartwell, and centred at SP 81114 10084. These ditches appear to relate to the extents of areas of ridge and furrow visible as low earthworks in 1946. Lidar visualisations show these low earthworks still exist but modern land use, the field has arable crops on it in the most recent aerial photographs which has levelled these, but some cropmarks are visible on the most recent aerial photographs on Google Earth. These may extend further to the west but there were no clear features to map, only uneven ground visible on lidar visualisations. (1-3)
