Description

Five air raid shelters of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located to the north of a factory, Southern Works, Bicester Road, and centred at SP 81459 14612. A row of five air raid shelters, probably Stanton Shelters, can be seen on the north side of a factory, ‘Great Southern Works’ formerly Cubitts Car Factory, which was closed in 1925 but used to make components for Wellington Bombers in World War II, (see MBC24891 and MBC24892) by the EKCO who had their headquarters at Aston House during World War II. The shelters can still be seen in 1950 but are gone by 1961. (1-5)
