Description

A post medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks adjacent Ascott Kennels and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located about 100 metres SE of Ascott Kennels and centred at SP 89683 23282, the irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 14,300 square metres in area. Due to its close proximity to the historic kennels and the approach road to Ascott House, it is possible that the extraction area is linked to their construction. On aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data, the extraction area remains visible (1-3).
