Description

A post medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks adjacent Chucksell's Spinney, Ascott and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located about 155 metres SW of Chucksell's Spinney and centred at SP 89840 22196, the irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 2,926 square metres in area and truncates a block of medieval/post medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, which it post-dates. On aerial photographs taken in 2022 and recent remote sensing data, the extraction area remains visible (1-3).
