Monument record MBC47852 - Site of Air Raid Shelters on the south side of a former rivet factory, Aylesbury

Ten air raid shelters of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant structures and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located on the south side of the site of a factory, redeveloped as Holly Drive, Aylesbury, and centred at SP 82414 12510. A line of ten air raid shelters, probably Stanton shelters, with an entrance at the northern end, are visible as earth covered mounds on aerial photographs from the 1940s and 1950s. In 1961 low mounds are visible on the site of the shelters but by 1967 the factory has been extended and there is no sign of the air raid shelters. The factory (see MBC25085) was constructed in the early 20th century, was partly demolished by 1993 and the whole area redeveloped for housing by 2003. (1-8)
