Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out by Oxford Archaeology in August 2024 revealed a small, very shallow sub-circular pit in Trench 10. The pit was 0.35m in diameter and 0.08m deep with sloping sides and a concave base. The fill was clay and produced two sherds of Roman pottery. Although the finds may indicate a Romano-British date for this feature, the abraded nature of the pottery probably indicates that it was residual, in a later period feature. See report for detail (B3).
The feature had not been identied by the earlier geophysical survey (B2).
