Description
Geophysical survey By Magnitude Surveys in June 2024 apparently identified a large curvilinear or anamaly or cropmark interpreted as a possible ditched enclosure approximately 50m wide (B2).
Evaluation trial trenching carried out by Oxford Archaeology in August 2024 revealed a shallow NNE-SSW aligned ditch in Tench 15. The ditch was 0.6m wide and 0.2m deep with gently sloping sides, a concave base and clay fill which produced no finds. A bulk environmental sample retrieved a small quantity of oak charcoal. No dating evidence was recovered from the ditch, but the possible form of the enclosure shares similarities with Iron Age enclosures excavated in the region. See report for detail (B3).
