Description
Evaluation trial trenching carried out by Oxford Archaeology in October and November 2024 in advance of a proposed solar farm development revealed a shallow curving gully, interpreted as part of a possible roundhouse eaves-drip gully, in Trench 42. The gully was 0.7m wide and 0.17-0.24m deep with steep sides and a flat base. It contained four silty clay fills, with occasional to frequent charcoal flecks, occasional burnt stones, and 13 undiagnostic pellets of fired clay. An environmental sample taken from the third fill included frequent small fragments of charcoal and a small undiagnostic flint flake. The gully had a rounded terminal at the southeast. See report for detail (B3).
The feature had not been identied by the earlier geophysical survey (B2).
