Description
A pond or possible fishpond of probable medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located north of Stoke House, Stoke Mandeville, and centred at SP 83647 09868. This pond is not shown on the Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 map but is clear as an earthwork in the 1940s. It is subrectangular and measures approximately 30x11m at its largest. Aerial photographs taken in 1993 show arable land use in this field and there is no sign of the pond on lidar visualisations. This is one of several ponds or possible fishponds along the watercourse which flows past the site of the old church at Stoke Mandeville. (1-3)
