- TRACKWAY (Medieval to Post-Medieval - 1066 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
The line of a former trackway of probable medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant cropmarks and earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located south of the site of Little Marsh Farm, Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh, and centred at SP 80308 09537. This sinuous trackway is visible as cropmarks across arable fields in 1946, it winds between areas of ridge and furrow cropmarks. It crosses fields where modern land use appears to be ley pasture and can be seen as a very slight earthwork on lidar visualisations. This trackway leads towards the site of Little Marsh Farm, where coprolite mining was taking place in the late 19th century and also to a concentration of medieval finds, from field walking and metal detecting in the area, within two curving field boundaries to the south of the site of the farm. It could also continue across to the moat at Marsh, approximately 1km away from the mid point of the trackway. (1-2)
