Description
Water channels and ditches of medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and levelled earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 200m west of the moat at Grove Farm, Ellesborough and centred at SP 83394 08196. These ditches and/or water channels are visible as earthworks in an irregularly shaped pasture field, with probable cropmarks of ridge and furrow, in the 1940s. The ditches and water channels are likely associated with the fishponds (see MBC7927) to the north of the moat at Grove Farm. By 1961 only the easternmost earthworks are visible and these can still be seen as very slight earthworks on lidar visualisations. (1-5)
