Description
Former boundaries and ditches medieval/post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located near Elmbrook Farm, Great and Little Kimble cum Marsh, and centred at SP 81528 09376. These low earthworks of banks and ditches form subrectangular enclosures which fit in to other boundaries, existing and those on some historic mapping, to form smaller plots which may have been associated with a moat to the west (see MBC1301) and the buildings that stood there, as well as the fishponds between this site and the moat (see MBC1303). Saxon and medieval pottery has been found on the island in the moat. Trees along the former boundaries are visible on aerial photographs up to 2017 but low earthworks can still be seen on lidar visualisations. These boundaries could be part of the former hamlet of Marsh which was amalgamated with Great and Little Kimble in 1885. (1-5)
